Stephens breaks into Stellies’ top-10 all-time appearance list
Sage Stephens has broken into the top 10 on the list of all-time appearances for Stellenbosch FC after featuring in goal during Saturday’s Carling Knockout Round of 16 win over Chippa United.
Upon taking to the field against Chippa United this weekend, goalkeeper Sage Stephens featured for Stellenbosch FC for the 79th time across all competitions, becoming the club’s joint-ninth most-capped player of all time in the process.

The 32-year-old shot-stopper, who joined the Maroons in 2020, overtook Leletu Skelem and Marc van Heerden on the club’s all-time appearance list where he has now drawn level former Stellies midfielder Júnior Mendieta in the top 10.
Deano van Rooyen is the most-capped player in Stellies’ history with 134 career appearances to his name, ahead of fellow centurions Rafiq de Goede, Jarrod Moroole, and Iqraam Rayners, the latter of whom is also the club’s record goalscorer.

Alongside the aforementioned trio of Stephens, van Rooyen, and Rayners, youngster Jayden Adams and club-captain Lee Langeveldt feature as the other players in the top 10 who are currently on Stellenbosch’s books.
