Devin Titus became the first Stellenbosch FC player to feature in every match of a DStv Premiership season during the recently-concluded 2022/23 campaign.
Having captained Stellenbosch’s reserve team to the 2021/22 DStv Diski Challenge trophy, Devin Titus was permanently promoted to the first team for the 2022/23 season and stepped up with aplomb by featuring in every match of the league campaign.
In doing so, the 22-year-old forward became the first Stellenbosch player to play a part in all 30 league matches of a single top-flight season, bettering the record of 29 previously shared between Ashley Du Preez and current teammate, Deano van Rooyen.
Titus started in 21 of the 30 matches on offer, appearing as a substitute in the other nine, and scored six times across the campaign, including twice in the club’s famous 3-2 come-from-behind win over rivals Cape Town City in the Cape Derby in January.
Most appearances for Stellenbosch in a single DStv Premiership season (league only):
Devin Titus – 30 (2022/23)
Deano van Rooyen – 29 (2021/22 & 2022/23)
Ashley Du Preez – 29 (2021/22)
Sibongiseni Mthethwa – 29 (2022/23)
Mark van Heerden – 28 (2019/20 & 2020/21)
Nathan Sinkala – 28 (2019/20)
Zitha Kwinika – 28 (2020/21)
Ibraheem Jabaar – 28 (2021/22)
Jayden Adams – 28 (2022/23)
His consistency extended to all competitions as well as he played in 34 out of 35 matches last season, only missing Stellenbosch’s 1-1 (4-3) penalty shootout defeat to Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 quarter-final in August when he was an unused substitute.
That overall tally is second only to Tshepo Mabua who featured in all 36 matches of the club’s inaugural season in the 2016/17 campaign, playing 30 times in the National First Division, four times in promotion/relegation play-off matches, and twice in Nedbank Cup games.
