Head coach Steve Barker has described the prospect of reaching the final of the Nedbank Cup as a massive achievement for the club, the community, and South African football as a whole.

The boss took time out ahead of Sunday’s Nedbank Cup semi-final against Sekhukhune United to address the media and discuss his side’s prospects of reaching the showpiece final of the competition later this month.

Should Stellies advance in the competition they would take on Orlando Pirates, who defeated Kaizer Chiefs in the other semi-final on Saturday, in the final, and Barker believes it would be a massive achievement for a club formed as recently as 2016.

“…For us as a football club, in our short existence, to have this opportunity and be on the verge of making a final is exciting, and it would be a massive achievement, not only for the team but for the town, for the community, for our supporters and for South African football in general. It is an exciting occasion for us,” he said.
