Thabiso Lebitso is hoping to add to Stellenbosch FC’s history books after being unveiled as a new signing by the Club ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Lebitso, a versatile defender capable of also playing in midfield, has become Stellenbosch FC’s first signing of the new campaign after completing a permanent transfer from Orlando Pirates.

‘I’m very excited to be here at Stellenbosch FC,” he said after completing the move. “This is a very good club, with good structures, so I’m happy to be part of the team.

“Stellenbosch FC is a professional club that does things in a proper way in terms of structure and organisation. For me, it’s all about professionalism, so I hope to add value, and I’m looking forward to the new season.

“The Club has a lot of young players and has done well with that approach, and I can add value for those younger players with my experience. Hopefully, we can add more pages to the club’s history books together as well.”

Lebitso’s arrival sees him reunite with Head Coach Gavin Hunt, under whom he previously played during their shared spell in Gqeberha with fellow Betway Premiership side, Chippa United.

“Having worked with coach Gavin before helps to a certain extent because he knows what you can do as a player,” he adds

“He knows what I can do, and I know what he wants as well, so it obviously makes it a bit easier. It helps because you’re not starting from fresh and you know what the coach’s expectations of you are coming in.”

Lebitso also reveals that he is looking forward to meeting the Club’s supporters and playing in a town that has increasingly adopted football as its sport of choice.

“Stellenbosch is a football-loving town. The people here want to see you in the Club and see you doing well,” he concludes.

“I’m excited to play in front of them and see how they react, to feel the emotions and everything that comes with it, and be a part of the Stellenbosch football family.”
