Athenkosi Mcaba will depart Stellenbosch Football Club at the end of the season upon the expiration of his contract.

Stellenbosch FC will bid farewell to Athenkosi Mcaba next month when the defender’s contract with the Club expires, bringing to an end the defender’s five-year spell in the Cape Winelands.

Mcaba joined Stellenbosch FC in 2021 and quickly progressed through the Club’s development ranks, where he helped the reserve team win the 2021-22 DStv Diski Challenge title in his maiden season.

During the same campaign, he was promoted to the first team and made the first of his 72 senior appearances for the Maroons across all competitions.

Over the course of the next five years, he was part of the squads that won the 2023 Carling Knockout, reached back-to-back MTN8 finals, and competed in two CAF Confederation Cup campaigns.

Famously, he was also the first Stellenbosch FC player to represent South Africa when he was called up to the Bafana Bafana squad in 2022 for friendly internationals against Guinea and France.

Mcaba departs with the gratitude and best wishes of everyone at the Club.
