Nkwali, Phili & Crumpton headed to FIFA U-20 World Cup

Stellenbosch FC players Siviwe Nkwali and Langelihle Phili, along with youth goalkeeper coach Morne Crumpton, have been named in South Africa’s squad for the upcoming FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

Amajita head coach Raymond Mdaka on Thursday announced his 21-man squad for the U-20 FIFA World Cup and included the Stellenbosch FC pairing of Siviwe Nkwali and Langelihle Phili, both of whom previously helped South Africa win the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.

The much-anticipated tournament is set to commence in Chile on 27 September and will run until October 2025, with South Africa pitted against France, United States, and New Caledonia in Group E.

South Africa’s FIFA U-20 World Cup Group Stage Fixtures:

29 September: France vs South Africa, Estadio El Teniente, Rancagua
02 October: South Africa vs New Caledonia, Estadio El Teniente, Rancagua
05 October: South Africa vs United States, Estadio El Teniente, Rancagua

Coach Mdaka will be supported in his backroom staff by Stellies’ youth goalkeeper coach Morne Crumpton, while former Maroons defender, Tylon Smith, is also included in the squad, just over a month after completing a transfer to Queens Park Rangers in England.

Reigning African champions South Africa will be making their fifth appearance at the U-20 World Cup, having previously featured at the 1997, 2009, 2017, and 2019 editions of the prestigious competition.
