The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released key dates and information relating to the 2024/2025 Interclub season, including pertinent details for Stellenbosch FC’s maiden CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

On Monday, the governing body for African football CAF announced that the 2024/25 CAF Interclub season will kick off with the Preliminary Round of fixtures scheduled between 16–18 August 2024 (with the reverse fixture likely to take place between 23-25 May).

Should Stellenbosch FC advance beyond the preliminary stages of the competition, the club will compete in the Group Stage between October and December 2024 which, if this is successfully navigated, will be followed by the Knockout Phase and Final between March and May 2025.

Stellies’ pathway in the competition will also be clear of any teams that competed in the CAF Champions League after CAF confirmed that eliminated teams will not transition to the Confederation Cup.

“The addition of the second preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup remains canceled [and] consequently, teams eliminated in the second round of the CAF Champions League will no longer transition into the CAF Confederation Cup,” a statement read:

“Clubs that advance from the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup will proceed directly to the group stage of the competition.”

Stellenbosch FC qualified for the Confederation Cup by virtue of a third-placed finish in the DStv Premiership last season, narrowly missing out on a spot in the Champions League to second-placed Orlando Pirates on goal difference.

The draw for the competition will take place in due course.
