Anicet Oura has laid out his ambitions at Stellenbosch FC after scoring his first goal for the club in Saturday’s 1-0 DStv Premiership win over AmaZulu.

Ivory Coast international Anicet Oura opened his goalscoring account for Stellenbosch FC on Saturday afternoon when he netted the match-winning goal in the club’s 1-0 DStv Premiership win over AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Match report | Stellies earn hard-fought away win over AmaZulu

The 23-year-old forward, who joined Stellies at the start of the 2023/24 season, fired home from close range to earn Stellies the win on the road, but he was quick to highlight the importance of the result over that of his maiden strike.

“It was a feeling of joy to score my first goal for the club, but I was happier with the victory because it earned us three important points away from home,” Oura said.

“I hope that we will have a good season together and achieve a top-three finish in the league, and with it get the chance to play in an African competition.

“We also want to win at least one of the cup trophies that we are competing for, while I have a personal ambition to be among the best players in the championship.”

Oura previously turned out for Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas, where he featured in both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, and had a spell in Armenia with the likes of Lori Vanadzor and Masis as well.

Now plying his trade in South Africa, he has been impressed by the standard of domestic football by comparison and ranks the DStv Premiership among the best leagues on the continent.

“I think the PSL is one of the best championships in Africa,” he added. “The league is very physical and rhythmic, and there is also quality in terms of the standard of play.”

His adaption to the league has, by his own account, been aided by his welcoming at Stellenbosch, where he has quickly bought into the culture and ethos of the club and its supporting communities.

Barker: We were the better team in transition against AmaZulu

“Stellenbosch is a beautiful province and the people here are really passionate about football, so it is always a real pleasure for me to be able to bring joy to the fans,” he concluded.

“The club also has a very professional framework to progress, and with my teammates, things are going well with everyone. I believe the team is the youngest in the entire championship, but we are progressing well toward achieving the club’s objectives.”
