The next generation of up-and-coming Stellenbosch FC youngsters were honoured on Saturday at the club’s 2023 youth awards ceremony.

Stellenbosch Football Club hosted its annual youth awards ceremony at the Lentelus Sportsgrounds in Stellenbosch on Saturday morning where the club’s outstanding young players were recognised and honoured for their sporting contributions over the course of the year.

It was a successful year for the club’s Academy with the U-16 team being crowned league champions and the U-18 team winning the Engen Knockout (WC), Engen Champ of Champs, and Kapstadt Cup competitions, while also being in contention to win their domestic league depending on results elsewhere.

The standout players across the various age groups were honoured at the event, which was attended by several first team players and coaches who took part in the trophy handovers in support of the next generation of Stellies footballers.

Keanan Johannesen, who recently made his debut for the club’s DStv Diski Challenge side, walked away with the U-18 Player of the Year and Top Goalscorer awards in the biggest honours of the day, while teammate Tylon Smith was named Sportsman of the Year.

Jordan Hendriks, Roger Willemse and Tyler Cupido were also awarded trophies in recognition of their respective call-ups to represent South Africa at age-group level earlier this year.
