Stellenbosch F.C. is delighted to announce that the Club has acquired the services of South Africa youth international goalkeeper Dejean Ah Shene.

  • Ah Shene has featured in the South Africa squad at U-17 and U-20 level.
  • The 18-year-old will initially team up with the DDC squad but is eligible for first-team duty.

Hailing from Ocean View, Cape Town, the 18-year-old shot-stopper arrives as a welcomed addition to the Stellies goalkeeping department and has penned a long-term contract with the Club.

“The way that the Stellenbosch F.C. first team gives players opportunities in the PSL was really a motivating factor, and left me to think that I could also be there one day because I know I have the potential to fulfil that dream,” Ah Shene said.

“Seeing the style of play that Stellenbosch plays compared to other PSL teams also encouraged me. The team likes moving the ball around and that’s the way I like to play, because I like building up from the back.”

Ah Shene was previously on the books of Ubuntu Cape Town where he briefly worked under the guidance of current Stellenbosch FC goalkeeping coach, Pernell McKop, and he is looking forward to reuniting with his former mentor.

“Before I joined, Coach P would always message me, check up on me and give me advice. He always wanted me here and that also boosted me, and I know I can grow and develop my game even further under him because he’s a good coach.

“With that kind of support, I can only become a better player. When a coach supports you, it motivates you even further and you don’t want to disappoint them, so I just want to give 100% for them and for the club all of the time.”

Welcome to the Stellies family, Dejean!
