Stellenbosch FC retire No. 25 jersey in honour of Oshwin Andries
On what would have been his 20th birthday, Stellenbosch Football Club can confirm that a decision has been made to retire the No. 25 jersey worn by the late Oshwin Andries in honour of his memory.
Andries made a lasting impact during his time with the Club and his remarkable accomplishments, which he achieved in such a short period, served as a beacon of hope and inspiration for future generations.
Speaking during a recent memorial service held at Rietenbosch Primary School in Cloetesville, Stellenbosch F.C. CEO Rob Benadie described the tribute as “the greatest thing a football club can do when a player passes on.”
To ensure that Andries’ legacy will endure the test of time, the Club can also confirm that the annual Stellenbosch F.C. Young Player of the Year award has been renamed in his honour.
Andries’ family were also present at the Stellenbosch headquarters on Friday as the Club gifted football equipment to local football club, Klapmuts Young Strikers in his honour.
“At the memorial services held in Klapmuts last week, it was evident how the community felt about Oshwin,” SFC General Manager Garth le Roux said. “He left a lasting impression, not just on the football field but off it as well.
“This gift of football equipment to Klapmuts Young Strikers is not only to celebrate our fallen hero’s birthday, but we also hope it will assist the club unearth more talented footballers within the area. This is in honour of Oshwin and in ensuring his legacy lives on.”
