One game at a time for SFC

Even though the Stellenbosch Football Club is sitting on top of the National First Division no one at the club is thinking about promotion to the PSL yet.

According to the SFC Club Manager, Garth le Roux, it would be premature to talk about what is going to happen next season with more than a handful of matches in the season left. “It will be foolish and irresponsible to already think about promotion. We’ll take it game by game, and with each game doing our utmost to ensure we keep on doing the ordinary things extraordinarily well.”

SFC is leading the NFD standing with 45 points after 22 matches. All other contenders have played 23, but SFC’s match in Durban against Real Kings was abandoned due to unplayable conditions because of heavy rains.

The PSL still has to confirm when the game will be replayed, but indications are it might be played after the coming weekend during the FIFA international break.

Ajax Cape Town is second with 40 points with Royal Eagles and Mbombela United on 39.

One of the standout characteristics of the club is the great team vibe and atmosphere. “The players are positive and showing great commitment each day in their training sessions. The motivation is high with the guys encouraging each other to go all out, whether at training or during the actual 90 minutes on the field of play. It is this camaraderie and overall team spirit that has carried us through in many games this season.”

The Stellenbosch Academy of Sport is the club’s headquarters and since the start of the 2018-19 season the club’s owners. Players and management have settled in well. “Who wouldn’t feel at home at this magnificent facility? The management and staff of SAS have made us all feel at home right from the start. We are glad and blessed to have this world class facilities at our disposal.”

SFC’s next game is on Saturday against Tshakhuma FC.

“Our next home game is on Sunday 31 March when we take on Tuks (University of Pretoria). Fans can, as always, expect an entertaining afternoon,” said Le Roux.

“Our players and tech team will give their all to ensure the victory. We encourage our loyal local fans to come out in their numbers to support the team. We need them! The magnificent vibe created by our ‘12th player’ has been instrumental in our success on the field this season. Note that club t-shirts and flags will also be on sale at the venue on the day,” he added.
