Abednigo scores twice for SFC

Striker Abednigo Mosiatlhaga scored a brace for the Stellenbosch Football Club against Ubuntu Cape Town on Sunday.

SFC won the National First Division match played at the Idas Valley Sports Grounds 2-0. It was Abednigo’s first goals of the season. He only returned to play late last year after recovering from injury.

SFC now have 40 points on the NFD log. Of the 19 matches played Stellies won 12. They are leading Ajax Cape Town by 7 points and this weekend’s opponent Mbombela United by 8.

SFC travels to Nelspruit for Saturday’s game. It is a crucial game for both teams. A win will extend SFC’s lead. A win for Mbombela will keep its hopes alive of getting promotion to the Premier Soccer League. There are still 11 games to go in the season so there are a few teams who still have it all to play for.

While Abednigo scored two goals for SFC against Ubuntu Cape Town to set up the victory, the big hero of the day was goalkeeper Lee Langeveldt. Being a local player – from Idas Valley – he is already a crowd favourite. But after his heroics in front of goal against Ubuntu he sure has made himself a few more fans. Langeveldt did everything his teammates and coach could have asked for and more. He saved some certain goals and along with his defenders frustrated Ubuntu to no end. No wonder goalkeeper coach Andre Bronkhorst has been walking around the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport – the club’s HQ – with the biggest smile all week.

After the match against Mbombela the team will have an off weekend and will be back in action on 23 February against TS Sporting.
