SFC take on Ubuntu CT

The Stellenbosch Football Club will be looking for another win this weekend to emphasise its spot at the top of the National First Division log.

SFC did not play this past weekend because of the break in the NFD programme. Action is back this Sunday with a match against Ubuntu Cape Town at the Idas Valley Sports Grounds.

SFC is leading the pack with 37 points after 18 games followed by Mbombela United (32) and Ajax Cape Town (30) in second and third place respectively. Stellies’ next game after Sunday is away against Mbombela on Saturday 9 February. It should be massive.

For now, the focus is on Ubuntu this Sunday in Idas Valley though. The previous time SFC played a team sitting in the bottom of the log it ended in a 0-0 draw.

Coach Steve Barker also warned his team that playing a team at the bottom of any log is always dangerous and that they can’t take it easy or be less focused than in any other match.

There will be some changes to the team that beat Ajax Cape Town due to injuries. Ashley du Preez will be out for a few weeks still, while Rafiq de Goede who missed the game against Ajax might be back in action if he is declared fit to play in time.

After this weekend’s match there are still 10 matches left in the league and of these six are home games. The last match of the league is on 5 May.

Sunday’s action starts at 15:30.
