SFC takes on AmaTuks in Pretoria

Even though the Stellenbosch Football Club’s winning streak of four matches was brought to an end when the team drew 1-1 against Tshakhuma on Friday in Idas Valley, Stellenbosch is still top of the National First Division log.

Leletu Skelem, Kayamandi local, scored SFC’s goal in this thrilling encounter.

This coming weekend SFC takes on Pretoria University FC in Pretoria. Currently SFC and Pretoria are first and second respectively on the NFD log.

After nine games SFC has 17 points. The team won five matches, draw two and lost two. The five victories is the most for any team thus far in the league. Iqraam Rayners has scored five of the team’s 12 goals.

This is week 10 of the league and it will only get tougher with some 20 weeks still to come.

SFC coach Steve Barker is a former coach of Pretoria University. And he probably knows better than anyone else that going up north and getting three points is no easy feat.

“It is never easy playing away from home especially on the highveld. Further challenges are that we must be able to maintain our focus and consistency. We also need to deal with the pressure of leading the league,” said Barker.

Next home game for SFC is on 10 November against Jomo Cosmos.

The last game of 2018 is on 22 December and the last home game on 15 December.
