SFC top of the NFD log
After eight games and five wins the Stellenbosch Football Club is top of the National First Division log.
This past weekend SFC got the better of TS Sporting by winning the away game 2-0. Before the match TS Sporting was top of the log. Now SFC has 16 points 1 more than Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and 2 more than Ajax Cape Town who all have played 8 games.
This coming Friday SFC takes on second placed Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila at the Idas Valley Sports Grounds.
Iqraam Rayners and Ashley du Preez scored the goals for SFC against TS Sporting.
Rayners is currently on five goals for the season thus far. Second most in the league. Captain Jarrod Moroole scored four and is in third place.
Coach Steve Barker is currently a happy man, but he also knows that the season is far from over.
“I am pleased with the position we are in. I believe it is a reward for the hard work ethic, desire and commitment the players and staff have put in. It is however very early in the season and our focus must not be on the log position but rather on continuing to improve daily as individuals and collectively as a team. We must focus on the processes and not on our position,” said Barker.
He added: “The challenge this week is to continue being consistent as a team. We must not become complacent but continue on improving our performance. When you are on top of the league teams have increased desire to beat you. We need to be ready for this and handle the added pressures that come with it.”
Kick-off is Friday at 15:30.
